Is my video card going to die?
While playing civilization V on my NVIDIA Geforce 8400, there was a huge, long carbon fiber-looking wall that blocked me from viewing what was beyond it, unless I go through the wall. I believe that's an artifact. This never happened to me before, I think it's because I ran out of video card memory(I played on a huge map with 22 civs and 24 city-states) with is 256 MB. Is it that or something else? Also, I have overclocked my video card, but like I said, it only happened when it ran out of memory.
The temperature doesn't go higher than 90 C and I overclocked it responsibly so that there wouldn't be artifacts or tearing, I'll start load the saved game again and see if it's gone, which means it's a heat problem.
It's almost like you've answered your own question.
Have you checked out your card's temps while playing Civilization? Artifacting usually happens when the card get too hot. Try blowing the dust off the card's heatsink to see if that helps.
Is it going to die... Yes if you keep it overclocked high. I think your card hit it's limit.
Think of an overclocked processor. If you play games and just used it to surf the web you may never see a Blue Screen. Then once you run a stress program like IntelBurnTest it will fail.
