Do i need Raid Card to setup 2 Hard Drives?
Do i have to get one?
I want to Setup the harddrives to Raid 5. I have enough sata ports on my PSO and MoBo.
not unless your motherboard does not have it built in
check to see some boards do support it most do not so you'll need a raid card and you'll need one that supports raid 5
then you'll need your minimum FOUR (4) hard drives for raid 5
then you'll need to configure and format all the drives to be ready for your os and data its best to do this from the start rather then bringing it up online after the os is loaded but dont forget when prompted to load the drivers for raid or you'll be doing it all over again
Add hot spare to raid 5
Some RAID cards and / or NAS devices can connect one or more spare disks (spare disks). These disks are not used except in case of failure of one disk. We implemented a two-disk RAID 1 and we also added a spare disk (of course it requires equipment that supports hotspare). If one disk in the RAID comes in a crash, Some RAID cards and / or NAS devices can connect one or more spare disks (spare disks). These disks are not used except in case of failure of one disk. We implemented a two-disk RAID 1 and we also added a spare disk (of course it requires equipment that supports hotspare). If one disk in the RAID comes in a crash, it will be immediately replaced with the spare disk. This increases fault tolerance of RAID because if you use a spare disk we can afford to lose an extra disk without losing data. That is of course expensive in terms of equipment on small RAID. By cons on large sets (5 discs and over) this could become very interestingit will be immediately replaced with the spare disk.
